In spite of all the hype surrounding the actor playing 10 roles, the story is given utmost importance and Hassan's screenplay really makes the movie watchable. Suddenly at the very end, he decides to mock his own efforts in a final sadomachoistic gesture. The last word goes first with Dasavatharam.Plot Govinda Raju is a biotechnology scientist in the US who realizes the dangers of chemical warfare. The chip containing a potent chemical that can destroy billions that they developed goes missing, and Govinda is in search of this vial which travels all the way to India. Many events and people's lives are intertwined as the protagonist searches for this vial in this science meets faith journey.Story, Screenplay and Direction The movie begins with the end. Once the climax approaches, you think you know what is coming up next, and then become pleasantly surprised. The terror and pain of the Tsunami has for the first time been justified on the silver screen. The way all the different threads pick up in the end is what makes the movie interesting and likeable.
The best part about the movie is that they did not neglect the story and simply concentrate on the characters played by the star. The characters are all valid and the context, even more so. Technically, it is an excellent movie, and not just in the Indian context anymore. Of course, some streaks of International cinema exists, including Passion of Christ and the last Bond flick.It is fusion in its most presentable form. If one part takes you to the Chola dynasty's Saivite-Vaisnavite conflict, the other has NRI scientists in the US rejoicing as Bush grants them money for research. The former CIA Fletcher terrorism is understated while the cop who suspects a lane full of Muslims to be terrorists is real as ever. All the characters that Kamal plays are actually all the main characters. Some silliness, a loophole here or there and a bit of hamming can be excused and neglected. Editing and camera work is okay. Graphics impeccable.Performances Kamal Hassan does the whole “Universal Hero” bit quite well, and gives a whole lot of Paisa Vasool for hardcore fans. Then there are the roles. The first role of a Vaisnavite, the old lady, the Tamilian cop, the sand activist and the protagonist role of Govinda Raju are the best five. The Japanese teacher, the American crook Fletcher and President Bush are also performed well by him, body language et all, but the makeup gets a little too unnatural here. The Afghani-Indian and the Punjabi pop star Avtaar Singh come last for the not-so-great makeup and not his best performance overall. But, wait a minute…many stars don't perform one role in the entire movie up to the mark sometimes, here this actor has done at least 8 convincingly! He just gets into the skin of the character, and even those who don't think the world of Hassan will have to appreciate first of all his determination to pull this off, and his sheer skill.Who else is in the movie? He eats everyone up, presence wise. Asin is likeable in both her roles. Music and Dance Not exactly an asset for the movie. The last number 'Loka Nayakuda' is good and 'Mukunda' hummable. Otherwise the music is bland.Last Word The movie ends at the beginning, and leaves you with a sense of satisfaction-of a marathon effort in filmmaking that's not wasted. For those who were afraid that Hassan might take himself way too seriously and it might turn out to be another Abhay (shudder!), there is good news. Dasavatharam makes a good watch, not just to see the actor play most of the major roles, but for having a solid fact-interweaves-with-fiction story that ends well but signs off with a little bit of self-mockery. But still, it is a clever movie, and the effort is there for all to see.

Introduction The incredibly slim and trim figure of NTR – a carry forward brand from Yamadonga – unleashed a sea of expectations among the Telugu film lovers all over the world. The persisting dilemma whether NTR could once again mesmerize the audiences with his uncanny figure in Kantri - just as he did in Yamadonga, got fizzled out. Yes. NTR is the clear winner. He ripped the screen with his electrifying dances and bone-breaking stunts and ferocious dialogues and what not. It is altogether an NTR film; and there is not much that you can expect from the entertainment angle. The film might soon slip into the flip side.

Synopsis

Kranti aka Kantri (NTR) is a Good Samaritan, who, to put it in his own words: "Kantri for cheats." An orphan himself, he soon finds himself in the midst of baddies, forced to be part of their empire. Their boss is Pothu Raju aka PR (Prakash Raj), who rules his ring of operations from counterfeit currency to smuggling to all dark business in Hyderabad, with his seat in Hong Kong. Seshu (Asish Vidyarthi), Acid (Raghu Babu) and Bairagi (Subba Raju) look after PR's business in Hyderabad. Das (Sayaji Shinde), once loyalist of PR but now a separate mafia don himself, becomes a nail in the shoe of PR here. He confronts with the gang members or PR, who one after the other gets killed. A new youth force is raised up from time to time.

Kantri is one such guy. Soon, he gets into the centre of activities and directly handles the operations without consulting his immediate local bosses. This helps him win the confidence of PR. Kantri even goes to Hong Kong and puts an end to the business of PR's rival Murali Sharma (onetime loyalist) and clinches the deal. Back in Hyderabad, Kantri desperately needs Rs. 10 lakh to save the life of a patient at an orphanage, suffering from renal failure. When rejected, he kicks the local bosses and takes the money. He also doesn't care PR in this matter and gets into direct rivalry with him. Now, its PR's turn to land in Hyderabad to take on Kantri. But, all of a sudden, Father Atmanandam (Kota Srinivasa Rao), the head of the orphanage, reveals that Kantri is none other than the son of PR. After this revelation, Kantri takes the riches of PR as his son. Very soon, PR finds himself duped. His son is none but the patient with kidney failure. Meanwhile, the warring gangs forget their differences and join hands to kill Kantri. How Kantri liquidates them forms the rest of the story.

Performance NTR as expected is the master of his own histrionics. Looking agile, bubbling with high levels of energy and charm, he rips the screen with amazing performance; say it in dances, stunts, dialogues and all other segments of acting. NTR as Kantri would sure make the audiences forget his previous molds of characterizations, hefty and round. Hansika Motwani is all glamour, but she utterly failed when it comes to performance. She played the role of a middle class girl. Another heroine Tanisha yet played the second fiddle.

Though, the director tried his level best to cull out the maximum mileage from the female charms, going by the story and situations, their characterization is rendered waste. Sunil and Brahmanandam's comedy thread is dull. Dharmavarapu Subramanyam and Hema played the parents to the heroine (Hansika). Murali Sharma who played the rival to Prakash Raj in the backdrop of Hong Kong did well, but the footage is limited. Same is the case with the other villains Ashish Vidyarthi and Sayaji Shinde. Subbaraju's performance as confident of NTR (in disguise) is interesting.

Technical Details

Meher Ramesh, the debut director in Tollywood, donned the multiple responsibilities of story, screenplay, dialogues and directions. Naturally, the result is a cocktail resulting in headache. Story is completely devoted to inter-rivalry factor – the henchmen turning into bosses themselves. This monotonous story further dwells into twists and counter twists, which the audiences really don't seem to care at all. Screenplay is nagging.

First half is completely not-happening, giving the audiences a sense of boredom. The second half is merely wasted with the logic factor of the director himself. The characterization of the hero is not fully established. The villains who deal with not only the domestic operations but to the stretched out foreign locales are shown as clowns. To cut short, their characterization comes as more theatrical.

Direction is mediocre, but some shots are really commendable. Of course, grace coming in bits and flashes doesn't score full marks. Comedy is given a name's sake touch, with the boredom factor continuously pricking the audience. Songs are a feast to the eyes. They are terrific with extraordinary selection of locations. Music by Mani Sharma too sounded well in theatres, though it doesn't create that much impact in the audio market. Dialogues are good in part. The scene in which NTR comes cycling and rendering dialogues in favour of TDP is something to observe in the backdrop of state politics. Cinematography is superb. Technical standards of Vyjayanti Movies are not missed out even by an inch.

KOCHI: It was a day of roaring business for jewelleries on Sunday, with people thronging the shops to buy gold on Akshaya Tritiya day, considered auspicious for making new purchases and starting new ventures.

All the jewellers opened shops by 7 in the morning and remained open till around 8.30 or even 9 in the night. Many arranged for extra staff and special counters to deal with the crowd.

Around 62 kg of gold was sold through the outlets of Joy Alukkas all over the State till noon, according to Vinod, manager of Joy Alukkas in Kochi. The rage was not confined to gold alone. Diamonds worth Rs.40 lakhs were also sold at Joy Alukkas outlets in the State till 2.30 p.m.

Joy Alukkas also chose the day to launch a new product, a diamond-embossed gold locket with the image of Mahalakshmi, Goddess of Wealth. The lockets, with the name `Samrudh', specially designed for the occasion, were sold out before noon. It comes in the price range of Rs.4,000 - 6,000.

The countrywide sales of Joy Alukkas till afternoon touched around 100 kg of gold, through its 11 outlets all over India.

There was heavy rush at Josco, another city-based jewellers. The crowds were even more than the last time, according to the manager. Traditional items were moving more than the modern designs. Gold coins were also in high demand.

The Akshaya Tritiya purchases started becoming a rage in the State only recently. Now, not only jewellers, merchants of all other ranges have also joined the Akshaya Tritiya crowd in a big way these days.

Major textile shops like Parthas have launched schemes and offers to mark the day. Seematti, another prominent textile group, inaugurated its renovated showroom for kids to coincide with Akshaya Tritiya.

Thiruvenkitam, patron of the group, Beena Kannan and Gauthram Reddy were present. Indus Motors is offering gold coins to people who buy vehicles on the day.

Sachin Tendulkar is not alien to honours but the cricket icon said the Padma Vibhushan award, which he received from President Pratibha Patil in the Capital on Monday, was close to his heart reports PTI.
"I’m very happy, it’s difficult to explain in words," an overwhelmed Tendulkar said after receiving the award.
"In 18 years, I have received several awards but this one is close to my heart. I’m happy that the government has acknowledged my contribution," he added.
The champion batsman, who is the captain of the Mumbai Indians team in the ongoing Indian Premier League Twenty20 competition, is currently missing the action due to a groin injury.
Tendulkar’s wife Anjali, who accompanied the cricketer at the prestigious ceremony, said, "I’m proud of him. Sachin plays from the heart and he does not need an award to perform better."

1. Cucumbers

they’re not just for lonely nights anymore. Slice ‘em really thin and lay them over your eyes, forehead, cheeks, chin–whatever looks puffy from last nights drink ‘em till you drop contest. They contain a mild astringent that’ll make you look like you actually got enough beauty sleep.

2. Honey and sugar face scrub

Mix a tablespoon of honey with a tablespoon of sugar. Wash your face, but don’t dry. Heat the mixture–about 5 or 6 seconds in the microwave–then gently exfoliate your face. This stuff rinses great, and doesn’t leave a lot of gunk in your sink or tub, unlike some higher-end cleansers. Plus, it gives you that great glow that makes you look like you’ve been doing you-know-what, even if you haven’t.

3. Olive and essential oil hair treatment.

Grab some extra virgin olive oil, pour a little in a cosmetic jar, bowl, or the lid to your latest microwave dinner–whatever’s handy. Add a few drops of lavender essential oil and a few drops of rosemary. Work some into the ends of your hair first, then the crown, brushing down with your fingers. Let sit for at least half an hour, preferably with a plastic grocery bag over your hair. If your hair’s pretty thick, you might not need to wash right away–that is, if you don’t mind smelling like an Italian kitchen–I’m sure don’t, and neither does my boyfriend, who prefers it to the smell of fruity perfume!

4. Sea Salt and oil body scrub.

In an old tupperware container, mix a cup of salts, enough extra virgin olive oil to mix well, and a few drops each of lavender and either peppermint or rosemary. The peppermint has a cooling effect–great for steamy summers. (Beware, though, any more than a few drops and you’ll feel like you’re naked in the middle of the Arctic).You can use mineral oil for this one, but it’s best to do yourself a favor and pop for a few basic essential oils. They’re better for your complexion and they last forever–you only need a drop or two per batch.

5. Cocoa butter and peppermint lip balm.

Mix equal parts olive or almond oil and cocoa butter. Add a dollop of honey, a few drops of peppermint and stick in microwave for 10-15 seconds. Swirl together, stick in fridge to cool and voila! Natural lip balm that tastes quite sexy indeed.

The quirky actor was supposed to perform at an award function ceremony in London tomorrow. But he simply didn’t show up at the event, nor did he go to London because - and here lies the crux of Sallugiri - he wasn’t in the mood.

Sallu did set out to go to London, we heard. He went with his baggage and coterie in tow. But at the last minute, the star decided that “he wasn’t in the mood” to go ahead with the journey. So he did a U-turn, beckoned his coterie to follow him and walked back to his car. And spent the rest of his day back home in Mumbai, while the organisers of the show in London grew white hair.

Says our source, “Salman was supposed to take the 1.40 am flight to London on Friday night. He reached Sahar airport at 11.45 pm. He was all set to go in for the security check, when he suddenly stopped in his tracks, turned and walked out. Everyone gaped in surprise.”

Salman was supposed to dance to a medley of four songs. No doubt the performance would have been much publicised since Salman is a saleable star, and the star’s date had been booked two weeks in advance. He did have some problem with the choreographer, and had been sulking. But much to the organisers’ delight, he had finally confirmed that he would do the show. But, we guess, a star’s a star.
